Inverclyde Council Community Learning and Development (CLD) Adult Literacies Team

Inverclyde Council Community Learning and Development (CLD) Adult Literacies Team offer free learning opportunities across the Inverclyde area to support those who wish to develop their skills in a number of areas such as:

  • Completing application forms
  • Reading letters/newspapers
  • Returning to study
  • Helping your children with homework
  • Budgeting
  • Successful completion of entry tests into professions such as nursing
  • Speaking confidently, for example: in interviews

All CLD classes are delivered in a non-formal way within the community and are suitable for all adult learners. They take place in a range of accessible venues and at a range of times.

We also offer training to partner agencies’ staff, raising their awareness of literacies issues affecting Inverclyde residents and exploring how to support individuals who may have difficulties, in the workplace and as clients/customers etc.

We also undertake partnership working and can develop and deliver programmes to suit organisational needs in supporting others, such as the example of the John Muir Award programme with embedded literacies for Parklea Branching Out (PBO), piloted in 2018, and now being run as an agreed annual course provision to PBO clients.
