Inverclyde group supported by Community Climate Asset Fund Contributing to a green and just recovery from COVID-19

Parklea Branching Out have secured a share of funding made available through the Scottish Government’s Community Climate Asset Fund (CCAF).

Parklea Branching Out have been awarded a CCAF grant totalling £88,200.

The CCAF is Scottish Government fund, administered by Keep Scotland Beautiful, and 279 community-based organisations from across Scotland have been awarded more than £3.2 million of funding to tackle climate change.

Building on the invaluable contribution that community-based organisations are making to Scotland’s COVID-19 response, the CCAF will help them to play a prominent role in the green recovery.

The CCAF is providing capital funding for a variety of items which will help community-based organisations to tackle climate change as Scotland accelerates its just transition to a net zero society.

Parklea Branching Out have been awarded a grant of £88,200 for the purchase of a new Community Growing Facility/Greenhouse asset to help the Port Glasgow and Inverclyde Community to reduce local carbon emissions through the sustainable development of our exemplar community-growing site.

This will provide increased opportunities and develop the skills of our local community, whilst facilitating discussion about climate change through community workshops and increasing an understanding of climate change in the local community through local food growing, composting, recycling and biodiversity awareness.

In order to meet some of the outcome of the CCAF our new glasshouse structure will be made from a refurbished frame. Work has already begun, with the glass from our existing structure being carefully removed so that it can be re-used elsewhere throughout the local community. Already a local allotment group has found a use for the glass.

Completion on the structure has been slightly delayed due to recent weather conditions but we are hopefully going to have our glasshouse structure completed by mid-late April 2021.
